“Emotionally it deserves a special place,” Dr Helmut Marko takes a look back into Red Bull’s first ever F1 word championship

Dr Helmut Marko
Dr Helmut Marko has played a key role with the growth and upliftment of Red Bull Racing over the years. The Austrian has been with the team since the start and has gotten the chance to taste victory on multiple occasions. However, after winning 5 constructors championships and 6 driver’s championships, the Red Bull boss will always remember the team’s first one.
During the final race of the 2010 F1 season, tensions were flaring as there were 4 drivers who were in contention of the driver’s championship trophy. The four being Lewis Hamilton, Mark Weber, Fernando Alonso and none other than Sebastian Vettel. It was a very important day for Red Bull as history was about to be made. With both of the team’s drivers in contention, there must have been a small bit of relief for the team’s advisor.
However, all hell broke lose pretty soon as the race started. By the end of the 300 kms race distance, it was Sebastian Vettel who finished ahead of Fernando Alonso in the points and went on to win his first and the team’s first driver’s championship. Sebastian Vettel became emotional wherein his radio message from 2010 is still enough to make someone cry.
Dr Helmut Marko will never forget when Red Bull won their first title

Whilst in a conversation with Auto Motor Und Sport, here is what the Austrian had to say about the team’s first title win. The first title in 2010 was certainly the most exciting in the sense that it was decided in the last race and there were three candidates who could win,” Marko said. “Since it was the first for Vettel and us, emotionally it deserves a special place,” he continued.
The Austrian also went on to talk about Max Verstappen and his incredible two title winning seasons. “The 2021 championship, which was won in a true thriller with Hamilton, was the toughest in terms of psychological strain,” he said. “This year, the ease with which Verstappen secured some of his victories, especially the one at Spa, left a lasting impression,” he continued.
With the Dutch world champion poised to win even more championships, it is clear that Dr Helmut Marko is proud of his golden boys. With Sebastian Vettel winning 4 championships with Red Bull, Max Verstappen is on a path to match Seb’s tally or even beat it. We will have to see about that in 2023 when the racing action starts again with a bang.
