Alpine has had a slow start to the season, with them showing some signs of promise between the seasons. From their double DNFs in Silverstone and Hungary to Esteban Ocon’s podium in Monaco, their unpredictability is off the charts. Ocon recently claimed Alpine’s slump is not as bad as it seems, and they are very close to their rival McLaren.
Ocon said that Alpine has shown good results and is only struggling currently. He said their situation seems bleak because other teams like McLaren have been very fast with their upgrades. Ocon believes that in due time, Alpine will be able to improve their results and cross McLaren in the constructors’ standings.
“But when we brought good updates on the car, we fought close to the top five. Other teams have improved more than us. But it really shows how tight it is and how bringing something to the next race can change things. We saw with McLaren what happened,” F1only.fr quotes Ocon.
While Alpine is going through a rough patch, they have one silver lining to hold on to. A group of investors, which includes Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, recently injected $218 million into the team. Alpine is currently sixth in the constructors’ standings, with a 46-point gap between them and McLaren.

Former Renault team manager claims Alpine need a billionaire like Lawrence Stroll to ‘rescue them from hell’
Former Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul recently addressed Alpine’s ongoing struggles. He believes that the only way out for the Enstone-based team is to entrust themselves to someone like Lawrence Stroll, the executive chairman of Aston Martin with a net worth of $3.9 billion as per Forbes 2023.
Stroll took over Aston Martin in 2020. After his takeover, the team saw massive success in 2023 as they grabbed six out of eight podiums at the beginning of the season. Abiteboul claims come on the back of Stroll’s success with Aston Martin, as he is adamant that Alpine need outside guidance to take them through their tough times.
“Lawrence Stroll has provided it at Aston Martin, Ferrari has done it too. And Mercedes is capable, despite its corporate structure, of building a structure that offers that in the management of Mercedes F1. I think that is what is needed,” said Abiteboul.
