“Experience was missing,” Alex Albon on his failed stint as a Red Bull driver

Alex Albon

Alex Albon former Red Bull driver and current Williams driver opens up about his faults in his journey with his ex-team. Alex Albon started to driver for Toro Rosso but was later promoted to Red Bull in mid-2019 replacing Pierre Gasly. After his move to the top team, he was expected to perform on the same level, which he miserably failed to do. The streak of bad performances took away his seat from Red Bull at the end of 2020 after serving the drinks company for a year and a half.

Alex Albon used to be the driver beside Max Verstappen, who could arguably be a prodigy for the generation. Alex brutally lost to his teammate and barely manage to even close the gap to him. Max Verstappen destroyed Alex keeping the driver down to an average class driver. Alex justifies his bad performance in Red Bull that taking a year out of his career.

Alex Albon lost his seat at the end of 2020 to a very experienced driver, Sergio Perez. Checo did an amazing job beside Max Verstappen and Red Bull with his performance almost matching the level of Max Verstappen. Sergio took his maiden Red Bull victory in the very first season with them. He outperformed Alex Albon in a better car and Albon expresses the reasons himself.

“It was the experience that was missing. If you look at the gap between Checo (Perez, ed.) and Max at the beginning of last year, it was no different for me,” said Alex Albon.

Alex currently is driving for Williams and is doing wonders for the team. He has been beating his teammate throughout the season and also scored a few points with a car not even capable of finding its way to Q3. He will be driving for the same in 2023 season as well.
