“Extremely important not to put on ourselves extra pressure,” Charles Leclerc demands Ferrari stay focused ahead of home GP
Charles Leclerc wins 2022 Australian GP
Charles Leclerc the Ferrari Formula One driver has urged his team to not lose sight of their main goal during 2022 ahead of the upcoming home race for the Maranello-based Ferrari team.
Charles Leclerc has indicated that it is vital for him and the team that they approach the Imola GP as just another Grand Prix weekend and not get too excited about the prospect of racing in front of their home fans.
Imola will mark the first of two home events for Ferrari in 2022, with Monza to follow. The “Prancing Horse” is arriving for the upcoming weekend as the leader in both the Drivers and Constructors championship.
Leclerc is at the moment 34 points clear of his nearest rival George Russell whereas in the Constructors standings the team has a huge 39 points buffer over the closest team.
Despite the reception Leclerc and Ferrari are likely to receive throughout the weekend, the Monegasque has vowed to keep his feet firmly on the ground.
“I can imagine [the excitement], but I don’t want to think about it too much!”
“It’s still very early in the season, obviously. It’s good to be in the lead of the championship; I lead by 34 points, [which] is always good to take [wherever] you are in the calendar.”
“But I don’t want to focus too much on the championship for now.“
Charles Leclerc: Ferrari needs to treat Imola like just another weekend
The Monegasque driver is aware of how unpredictable Formula One is and does not want to slip up in any way to give his competitors a chance to get near to him in the driver’s standings.
He has urged his team to follow the approach that took them to victory in Bahrain and Australia.
“We need to approach the race weekend just like we approached the first three weekends,” he made clear.
“I think it’s extremely important not to put on ourselves extra pressure, and not [to] try to overdo things.”
“We are working – I think – as a team extremely well since the beginning of the season, and we just need to keep doing our job, just like we did in the first few weekends.”
Charles is happy with what the team has been able to achieve so far in the season and wants his team to keep their foot on the pedal so that no one is able to get near Ferrari in both championships.
