After a pause of three weeks, the Formula 1 fans can finally rejoice another Grand Prix weekend with the arrival of the Azerbaijan GP. This race holds a lot of importance because many teams have introduced their first upgrades of the season in Baku, and then there is the fact that the FIA have released some new Sprint rules for it. Thus, all eyes were on the Azerbaijan GP when Charles Leclerc got his first pole position of 2023 with a brilliant performance that has negated the statements of his critics who said his career is over.
Ferrari had somehow managed to mess up the start of the brand-new Formula 1 season after their mishaps of 2022 which resulted in Mattia Binotto leaving the team. Charles Leclerc ended up DNFing in two of the three opening races of the 2023 Formula 1 season. The other race saw the Monegasque finishing in the P7 position. This was quite a disappointment to the Ferrari fans because the Maranello outfit broke into the top 2 during the 2022 season and the Tifosis had started to believe that 2023 might be their season.
However, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix – which marks the beginning of a new era of F1 Sprint Races – saw a change in the normal order. Charles Leclerc managed to claim pole position in the first ever Friday Qualifying Session. He managed to beat out the Red Bull of Max Verstappen by 0.188 seconds and Sergio Perez claimed P3 with a time gap of 0.292 from the leader. The Red Bull duo is followed by Carlos Sainz, and then there is Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris in the top 7.
Charles Leclerc claims to aim higher for the next Qualifying Rounds

Ending Ferrari’s spell of bad luck and bad performances, Charles Leclerc got the first pole position of the season for the team at Baku. Speaking on this, Charles Leclerc said, “It’s building up to being close to the wall without touching it. It went well in the last three year. We have another qualifying tomorrow, hopefully, it ill be four poles in a row, then we have the races which will be a lot more important.“
In other news, Charles Leclerc’s surprise pole win has been an occult warning for Red Bull since their driver duo could not match up to the Monegasque’s speed at Friday’s Qualifying Round. Now it remains to be seen how the rest of the qualis pan out and if Red Bull can surpass Ferrari to get back to the top once again.
