F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali teases their big plans for the Las Vegas Grand Prix

It is an undoubted fact that the FIA’S ‘American Dream’ is on the path towards becoming a reality as there are now going to be three massive Grands Prix on the American soil from 2023. Only two years ago, it was just the United States GP held in Austin, but the scenario has completely changed now. Formula 1 has almost shed off its image as the elite sport exclusive to the rich and aristocrats of Europe, and it has become accessible to all.

The word about F1 has also reached across the pond, thanks to several factors including the hit Netflix series Drive to Survive. Indeed, Netflix has a huge viewership consisting of Americans and when they saw the thrill and adventure depicted in the Drive to Survive series, they instantly got drawn to Formula 1. Only a few years ago, racing meant NASCAR for the US citizens but now, F1 is all the rage there. And taking full advantage of this popularity, the FIA have decided to inaugurate yet another Grand Prix in the US after the groundbreaking success of the Miami GP which debuted in the calendar last year.

The viewership and the attendance at the Miami race added to the reason why another F1 race is mandatory for the United States in the upcoming season. For the first time ever, the Miami GP and Austin GP numbers made Formula 1 enter the list of the top 10 most in-demand global sport experiences in a survey conducted by Stubhub. Riding this high, the FIA have now set their goal for the Las Vegas Grand Prix which, Stefano Domenicali claims, will be a giant affair involving almost $1.3 billion.

Stefano Domenicali believes the Las Vegas Grand Prix will defeat Super Bowl with respect to viewership stats

Las Vegas Grand Prix

The Preview Las Vegas, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, saw Renee Wilm, CEO of the Las Vegas GP announce the projected numbers that they are targeting to hit with the upcoming race in Paradise, Nevada. As per a report by Applied Analysis, the visitor spending is projected to be about $966 million and there will be about $316 million for event operations and support costs. It has also been noted that the race will have about 100,000 attendees daily for all the rounds and probably even more for the Main Race on Sunday.

Speaking on this, Stefano Domenicali said, “Super Bowl will be for one year, but we’re going to stay for a long time. We are going to have a continuous flag here in the city, and we are going to mark not only for the week of the event, but we are going to mark F1 in Vegas as a place where we will develop the sport.”

It is quite apparent that the FIA are putting enormous efforts to magnify Formula 1’s popularity in the United States. And the Las Vegas Grand Prix is being projected to be the race to watch out for as it will surely be the biggest race in F1 history with a huge budget and about 7,700 people in work to make it into a success.
