Formula 1 is all set to race in the streets of Sin City. The pinnacle of motorsport would soon head into Nevada for the inaugural Las Vegas GP. F1’s commercial rights holder Liberty Media has invested heavily in this highly-anticipated race. Now, Las Vegas GP CEO Renee Wilm has opened up on her experience as a female F1 race promoter.
Wilm mentioned that she was honored to be serving as the CEO of the Las Vegas GP. The race also marks the first occasion where Formula 1 and Liberty Media have acted as a promoter as well. Renee Wilm pointed out that it’s a massive accomplishment for a woman to serve as the CEO of this project. This in turn could help encourage more women to participate not only in motorsport but other avenues as well.
I’m obviously very honoured to have had the opportunity to oversee this event… I don’t often think about the fact that I’m a woman running the project. I just think about the project, but to take a step back for a moment.
Renee Wilm told Sky Sports F1
The 46-year-old believed that her position could inspire millions of young girls. Renee Wilm mentioned that this could be related to the finances or even engineering for such massive projects. Wilm reckoned that it was crucial for Formula 1 to use this opportunity to form a pathway for future generations. The management team of the Las Vegas GP includes some of the most talented women in their respective fields.
I do think it is incredibly important to the future generations of women who seek to be at executive levels in business, who want a career in motorsport, whether that's in the driver's seat or in the engineering staff or on the business side of it.
Las Vegas GP management team has qualified and dedicated women, says Renee Wilm
The Las Vegas GP CEO revealed that her team includes women for a variety of designations, including the Chief commercial officer, Senior Director of race operations, and Vice President of event operations. However, Wilm clarified that the individuals were not selected for their gender, rather these women turned out to be the most qualified and skillful for their respective roles.
We didn't go about putting the management team together with the intention to have four women running this event, but we have incredibly qualified, dedicated women of whom I'm incredibly proud.
Renee Wilm acknowledged the importance of female representation in the world of motorsport. The 46-year-old praised F1 Academy and expressed her desire to have the all-female series race on the Las Vegas Strip in the future. The race organizers had tried to get F1 Academy at this year’s race. Unfortunately, road closure requirements forced the Vegas GP to postpone this addition.
