RM Sotheby’s auction house based in Canada is infamous for auctioning automobiles. They recently put up F1 legend Nigel Mansells memorabilia for sale. They will also put Lewis Hamilton’s Maiden championship-winning car, W04, up for auction in Las Vegas.

Nigel Mansell is a British racer who, although he had a short career, won 31 races and scored 59 podiums. He won a world driver’s championship in 1992. He even raced in the CART Indy Car World Series PPG IndyCar and has raced in the 24 hours of LeMans.

Nigel Mansell has put up a lot of his motorsport memorabilia up for auction four years after the museum that housed it all shut to make space for his expanding car dealership business in Jersey, where he now lives. Although now 70, he was a collector and had put up multiple memorabilia for sale in the RM Sotheby’s auction. Mansell said, “The collection is the material manifestation of the most significant moments of my career,” He sold multiple racing suits and helmets from his past races.”

Some of the notable items that were sold, as reported by crash.net, are his helmet from his first F1 Grand Prix win at Brands Hatch in 1985 [£68,400], his 1992 British Grand Prix winner’s trophy [£26,400], race suits, boots and gloves from 1992 [£21,600] and many other collectibles from his races.

Past sales made by Nigel Mansell in RM Sotheby’s auction

Last year at RM Sotheby’s sale in Monaco, Mansell sold three race cars from his collection. It is thought that some successful bidders will be collectors who already own examples of Mansell’s race cars and want to buy the accompanying memorabilia.

He sold the 1989 Ferrari 640, His 1991 British-GP winning Willaims FW14 notable as the car in which he gave Ayrton Senna a lift back after he ran out of fuel, and also the 2005 Reynard 2KI in the previous Monaco auction.

A Sotheby’s spokesperson said: “Nigel Mansell’s Legacy Collection is a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a vast array of items from his season of 1992 Formula one”. And he also said that the Legacy Collection is an opportunity to acquire items of ‘immense historical significance’
