Emerson Fittipaldi, two time Formula 1 world champion, has praised Fernando Alonso for the brilliant job he has been doing for many years in the sport.

Fernando Alonso has been in supreme form during the 2023 F1 season and former 2-time F1 World Champion, Emerson Fittipaldi has showered massive praise on the Spanish driver. He is so pleased with what Alonso has been doing at the pinnacle of motor racing, that he has gone on to compare him with Tennis legends, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Fernando has proved a lot of doubters wrong since his F1 return and Emerson Fittipaldi has become a big fan of his strong mental strength. While shedding light on the same, he told the Spanish newspaper AS, “It is true that I have compared him with Federer because they seem to me to be similar cases in terms of mental power but Nadal is also a valid example, of course.”

The Brazilian legend added, “He has spent many years at a very high level and overcoming adversity with injuries, but his ability to overcome everything is strong. Both are references for all athletes, with a lot of experience, and very competitive. And Alonso is also in that group of athletes capable of anything due to his mental strength.”

Fittipaldi enjoys many sports and just to put emphasis on how well Fernando Alonso has been doing in F1, he has compared him to Federer and Nadal who in their own right are huge role models in tennis and also considered to be two of the greatest of all time. The 76-year-old strongly believes what makes the trio similar is their strong resolve to fight it out during tough times and not back down.

Coming into the 2023 F1 season, there was hype around Aston Martin being able to produce a strong car for the campaign. However, no one was sure how strong the AMR23 would prove, but after three races in the season, everyone is well aware of how potent Aston Martin’s package is this year, especially in the hands of Fernando Alonso who has stuck his car in P3 thrice in the first three races.

Emerson Fittipaldi was asked whether he has been surprised with Aston Martin and Alonso’s resurgence, and while answering he said, “Aston Martin is undoubtedly the surprise of the championship so far and Fernando is the ideal driver to extract the full potential of that car. I am convinced that this is not a coincidence or a flash in the pan and that Alonso is going to be very fast throughout the year to the surprise of many.”

Taking into account what has happened so far in 2023 around the Silverstone-based team F1 season, Fittipadi has backed Alonso to keep up his good run throughout the campaign.
