F1 officially confirms the contract extension of Australian GP until 2035

The Ferraris in action at the 2022 Australian GP

The Australian GP returned to the F1 calendar after 2 years this year in April, the race was dominated by Charles Leclerc in his Ferrari after he led all the laps, won the race, and also managed to take on the fastest lap. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, retired early from the race after getting into the gravel.

New contracts and contract extensions are a major part of F1, for both the drivers, and the tracks. Albert Park is one of the most appreciated tracks for the fans, and for much long, it used to be the seasons’ inaugural race track.

F1 released a good news for the fans of the track, giving the track a massive contract extension till 2035. The agreement also allowed for F2 and F3 cars to race on the track from next year onwards. This is sure to bring a lot of attraction for Formula 1 fans to Australia from all around the world. Australia has had over 400,000 fans to watch the race in a single event, and these numbers would keep on pumping for the next decade after this major extension.

Australian officials stated that the deal was hard, but the race is here (at Australia) to stay, as quoted by The Age.

F1 arrived in Australia for the first time in 1985. F1 later moved to Albert Park for the races, and had stayed there since. The track was closed for the past 2 years due to the pandemic, and the Australian officials made the most out of this gap. The track underwent major changes this year, and new DRS zones were introduced on the track, giving it a total of 4 DRS zones. However, one of the zones had to be removed by the FIA before the race due to safety issues.

F1 Legend and former racer Michael Schumacher holds the record for most race wins at Australia (4), and Ferrari have the highest constructor’s wins (13).
