Oscar Piastri has impressed the entire F1 paddock with his performances this year. The Australian driver made a highly-anticipated debut with McLaren after replacing fellow countryman Daniel Ricciardo. Piastri’s highlight of the season so far was his P2 finish in the Belgian GP F1 Sprint. Former F1 driver Timo Glock reckons that the McLaren driver has the potential to challenge Max Verstappen.

Glock praised Piastri for his staggering performance at Spa-Francorchamps as a rookie. The former Toyota driver believed that the Australian driver would achieve considerable success throughout his career in F1. Moreover, Timo Glock mentioned that the 22-year-old was matching teammate Lando Norris in a one-lap pace. Total-motorsport.com quotes Glock, “He has a great future ahead of him and has done everything well so far this season. In qualifying he is on a par with Lando Norris.”

Additionally, Timo Glock was adamant that Piastri has what it takes even to put up a fight against Max Verstappen. Although, the F1 pundit highlighted the need for the right car and conditions for the Australian to match the two-time world champion. Glock explained, “In the future, he will definitely be someone who will convince with his talent and who can put pressure on Verstappen if given the right opportunities.”

Piastri joined the F1 grid after a dramatic fallout with Alpine when the 22-year-old refused to race for the French team. Instead, the Australian driver signed up with McLaren to replace a departing Daniel Ricciardo. Interestingly, Oscar Piastri has stayed close to his teammate in his rookie season. As such, the McLaren driver has proved his worth straightaway.

Oscar Piastri briefly took the lead from Max Verstappen during the Belgian GP F1 Sprint on the first lap. Although, inevitably, the reigning world champion drove past the McLaren. Piastri has even come close to getting two podium finishes this year, including the British GP. Though, it seems that the 22-year-old might soon manage to finish in the top 3.

Timo Glock was convinced that Oscar Piastri was a highly talented F1 driver. The F1 pundit was adamant that with the correct opportunities, Piastri could put up a challenge against Max Verstappen. However, the Woking-based team still has a long way to go in its journey back to the front of the grid. As such, fans might have to wait for a showdown between the two drivers on track.
