F1 has been on the rise in recent seasons, but looking at the extreme dominance of Max Verstappen this year, F1 pundit Jonny Herbert has urged the hierarchy of the sport to have a re-look at their new regulations. He ardently believes if things keep rolling on the way they are rolling currently, the sport could start losing fans.

Max Verstappen has proved to be an incredibly dominant force behind the wheel of the RB19, and none of the drivers of the other teams have even been able to stay close to him in any way. He has steamrolled his competition so far, and Herbert thinks the Austrian GP will also prove to be another masterclass from the Dutchman.

Jonny Herbert is worried about the popularity of the sport. While talking about Red Bull’s dominance at the front, he told Mirror, “There is a threat that people might turn off because it is predictable, and Red Bull’s domination could be a problem. It is not what I want. I want others to have that chance to take it to Verstappen. We are not seeing that. There is always that being predictable could lead people to switch off.”

He added, “If you look at the Netflix and America coming on board, we have had a couple of years where we have had a fight on our hands. Ferrari were in the mix last year, but then it went awry. This year Red Bull are in complete control.” The F1 pundit has made his point of view clear, and it could prove to be true in the upcoming months.

In the 2022 F1 season, we had two teams gunning for the title until the midway point of the campaign; however, after that, Ferrari was just not able to keep up. Fast forwarding to the ongoing campaign, the Milton-Keynes-based Red Bull team has pretty much secured both Championships, with Max Verstappen leading the way.

The 25-year-old is sitting comfortably at the top of the Drivers standings and has got a gap between himself and Sergio Perez, who is second at the moment. While the latter also has got the same weaponry as Verstappen, the Mexican just hasn’t been able to put the RB19 through the wringer as viciously as his teammate.

The upcoming Formula 1 event is the Austrian Grand Prix, and considering that Max Verstappen is again starting the race from P1 on the grid, there is every chance that he will disappear into the distance and win the race comfortably.
