Sergio Perez has won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at the Jeddah F1 Circuit. He started the race from P1 on the grid and was able to do an error-free race that has put him just one point short of Max Verstappen’s Drivers Championship tally. The Dutchman is now on 44 points whereas Perez has got 43 points to his name after two races of the 2023 F1 season.

Sergio Perez did not have the best of outings in Bahrain as he struggled to keep pace with his teammate. However, in Jeddah, he started from P1 and after facing a few tricky moments early on in the race, he was able to do a smooth race and was able to hold off Verstappen to secure his first win of the ongoing campaign.

The 33-year-old is ecstatic with his result and during his post-race interview, Perez added, “It turned out to be tougher than expected. The safety car, we really did the job in the first stint trying to take the victory from us again in Jeddah. The team did a fantastic job. They worked so hard during the weekend.”

We had a lot of mechanical issues but they have been on top of it. It’s time to celebrate. The important thing today is that we were the fastest car today. There is some work to do. We need to do some work to get better starts in the future.” Looking at the comments of Sergio Perez, it is clear that he is extremely pleased with his result.

Sergio Perez has got momentum on his side going to Australia

With Sergio Perez securing his first win of the current campaign, he has got all the momentum going into the third race of the season in Melbourne, Australia. Moreover, managing to secure good momentum during the initial races of a campaign, really helps a driver get into the groove of scoring race wins regularly.

However, getting the best of Max Verstappen in Australia would not be easy for Perez. The Dutchman despite starting the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from P15, managed to end up in P2 by the end of the race. This shows how fast the reigning World Champion is behind the wheel of the RB19. Max Verstappen lost out on the race win in Saudi Arabia by a margin of only 4 seconds.

With the second race of 2023 F1 season done and dusted, what can be expected from Sergio Perez in Australia? The Mexican got a bit lucky in Jeddah because of Max Verstappen’s qualifying incident. However, considering that the Dutchman would be extremely hungry after missing out on the win in Jeddah, would Perez really be able to get the better of his teammate again during the third round of the 2023 F1 season?
