Red Bull Racing has dominated Formula 1 ever since the new ground-effect regulations came into effect in 2022. The entire grid has taken some inspiration from the RB-19 this season including the likes of McLaren and Ferrari. The Milton Keynes team brought in another major upgrade at the Hungarian GP. F1 Technical Analyst Paolo Filisetti believes this would further solidify the team’s dominance.

Filisetti took a deep dive into the upgraded RB-19. The 55-year-old reckoned that the package truly revolutionalizes the ground-effect era in F1 as the updated RB-19 is now far more advanced than the entire grid. He said, “It wasn’t actually an update, it was a revolution. As if Red Bull does not want to beat its competitors, but to destroy them.”

The Milton Keynes-based team introduced even slimmer side pod inlets at the Hungaroring that mimic a letterbox. Red Bull has enjoyed a lack of issues with high temperatures with its Powerunit this season which allowed the team to make gains in this area. This in turn gives a glimpse of what the 2024 Red Bull challenger could look like.

Filisetti stated, “The updated RB19 is a trailer for RB20. As the engine is more effective at higher temp than all other competitors so a “letterbox inlet” can be introduced.”

Red Bull partnered with Honda for its power units in 2019 before establishing Red Bull Powertrains after the Japanese giant’s announced exit in 2020. Paolo Filisetti believed that the in-house power units division with Honda’s expertise has further allowed aero genius Adrian Newey to get more out of the car. He said, “The fact that the production of the new engines will be arranged internally at Red Bull in the future… only improved the synergy between Newey and his staff.”

The Milton Keynes-based team has spearheaded concepts in F1’s new era and results are evident. Max Verstappen seems set to win this third consecutive world title with 9 race wins in 11 rounds and a championship lead of over 100 points. On the other hand, rivals are still playing catch up with Red Bull as they work on upgrades to slowly match the RB-19.

Thus, Paolo Filisetti believed that Red Bull has changed the game in F1 once again with the upgrades at the Hungarian GP. The Austrian team’s innovative designs have helped the team dominate the sport in recent years. With the latest package of upgrades seemingly only making it harder for rivals to play catch up with Milton Keynes.
