Face of Viaplay’s F1 show claims Christian Horner’s fate hangs by the thread as Red Bull might sack him next week

It was recently revealed that an internal investigation was going on by Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. However, the Briton has rejected any claims regarding the allegations and has stuck to his role as chief of the team. However, according to recent reports, Horner could be axed as soon as this week.

The Briton was present on the first day of pre-season testing at Red Bull’s pitwall. The team were aimed at testing out the car’s capabilities and conducted various test runs. However, the paddock was centred around Horner and his duties at the testing.

According to a Finnish journalist Mervi Kallio, only a few final formalities remain and the removal of Horner is certain. The journalist expects his removal to take place as soon as Wednesday, but it could happen within this week. It would be a big moment in the brand’s history as Horner was the team principal at Red Bull since the team’s origin.

Who can succeed Christian Horner at Red Bull?

Horner has been at the helm of the team from way back when the team was originally bought from Jaguar. The 50-year-old has recruited multiple personnel in that time frame from the legendary British designer Adrian Newey in 2006 to developing young talents like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. However, if worst comes to worst for the Briton, then who will be the contenders for his post?

According to gpblog.com, Jonathan Wheatley is the most prominent name going around to replace Horner. However, current technical director Pierre Waché is also in the run for the spot. Also, the current ambassador of the team David Coulthard is a candidate, but it seems unlikely for the Scottish driver to take up this role.

Out of Red Bull’s pool, other names thrown around are former Ferrari and Alpine bosses, Mattia Binotto and Otmar Szafnauer. Despite that, only time will reveal what will be the fate of the current team principal at Milton Keynes and who would replace him, if a situation arises.
