The driver racing on his home soil has failed to qualify in a great spot for the Sunday race. Sergio Perez has qualified P5, a place below the Aussie racer Daniel Ricciardo. However, the gap between the lap time of the two drivers was a meager four-hundredths of a second. Fans were quick to take note of the results and berate the Mexican driver.

Daniel Ricciardo had talked about a potential Top-10 finish at the Qualifying session ahead of the Mexican Qualifying. At the same time, Perez had also promised better results at his home race. The Mexican fans and his family from the Red Bull paddock cheered and supported the Mexican. But to his dismay, the qualifying results were disastrous for the Mexican driver.

Ricciardo might have overshadowed Checo’s performance, but the Mexican driver qualified just 0.2 seconds behind the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen. Regardless, the Honey Badger will start ahead of Perez and have a comfortable start to the race. Nevertheless, the Mexican fans still hope the local hero will perform well at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit and potentially win the race.

Fans quickly respond to this blunder from Sergio Perez

Driving the dominant RB19, fans were obviously quick to criticize Checo. In a recent tweet on X, fans recalled Dr. Helmut Marko‘s comments and added, “Hello South American driver guy, you’re fired.” indicating Marko’s racial comments that were passed onto Perez. Another fan claimed that Danny outqualifying Sergio Perez should indicate the change in seats between the two drivers. And some called it a ‘loss’ for the Mexican driver.

However, fans had mixed reactions to the news as on one hand, Ricciardo’s personality is loved by fans all around the grid, but at the same time, Checo showed great improvements for the Mexican GP. Some fans said that they loved to see the 34-year-old Aussie in great form and return to his amazing winning ways.

Despite the disappointing results in Qualifying, it is too quick to judge the results of the race. Perez is still five spots away from victory and has the pace to emerge victorious at his home GP potentially. Fans still cheer the Mexican driver as he drives through the Mexican circuit. It will be exciting to watch the two veterans race on the Mexican circuit on Sunday.
