Carlos Sainz’s bad luck seems to have followed the Yas Marina Circut. After an unfortunate weekend at the Las Vegas GP last weekend, the Spaniard finds himself in the barriers. During the second practice session of the Abu Dhabi GP, he suffered a high-speed crash triggering a red flag that significantly impacted Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc‘s running.

The incident unfolded early in the session when Sainz, on his first flying lap, encountered the slower car of Daniel Ricciardo. The dirty air emanating from Ricciardo’s car disrupted the aerodynamics of Sainz’s Ferrari, causing it to snap. As Sainz navigated a bump on the track, he lost control of the car, sending it into a spin and colliding with the barriers.

Fortunately, Carlos Sainz emerged from the crash unscathed, a testament to the safety measures in modern F1 cars. However, the impact left his Ferrari significantly damaged, prompting a red flag and suspending the session. Sainz, frustrated with the dirty air from the car in front, expressed his displeasure over the radio saying;

I've crashed, guys. Dirty air from the car [in front]. It gave me a massive snap, the dirty air and the bump, I think.

The incident in FP2 disrupted Leclerc’s running, compounding the challenge for Ferrari. With Leclerc opting not to participate in FP1, putting his feet up for Ferrari’s reserve driver, Robert Schwartzman, FP2 was crucial for him to gather essential data and fine-tune the car’s setup. The red flag-induced stoppage, triggered by Sainz’s crash, significantly limited Leclerc’s track time, hindering his preparation for the Abu Dhabi GP.

Fans troll the Ferrari team for having ‘fender benders’ with the barriers

As the video made its way to the internet, fans took the chance to take a brutal bite at the Spaniard’s woes. Fans claim that a Ferrari crashing into the barriers is just another ‘typical weekend.’ Almost every section of the fans was mocking the stricken Ferrari driver. Fans trolled him for comparing him with his teammate.

Another section of fans were worried about the Spaniard and were glad to see that he was okay. The fandom taunted that every Ferrari car needs to have a little ‘fender bender’ with the barriers. Fans speculate that the Spaniard might incur yet another penalty as the crash might have damaged the crucial components.
