Daniel Ricciardo has returned to Formula 1 with AlphaTauri. Many expected the Hungarian GP to be a tough race for the Australian driver with a car that is difficult to drive. Ricciardo had the uphill task of matching teammate Yuki Tsunoda who had provided some good results so far. However, Tsunoda failed to meet expectations against his new teammate in Qualifying.
The AlphaTauri cars had a difficult run in Q1 as the car remains one of the slowest on the grid. Nonetheless, Daniel Ricciardo surprised the entire paddock as he progressed to the next round. Albeit, the Australian driver narrowly made it to Q2 as he finished Q1 in P15. Unfortunately, Tsunoda had a session to forget as he got knocked out from Qualifying.
The Japanese driver crossed the chequered flag behind Ricciardo in P17. This marks the first occasion in the past four races when the Red Bull sister team had one car into Q1. Certainly, a good start for Daniel Ricciardo on his return to the Faenza-based team. Yuki Tsunoda would be looking for a better day tomorrow in the race to make up for this underwhelming result.

Fans on Twitter were quick to share their views. One user pointed out that it was unbelievable to see Ricciardo be the one who ends AlphaTauri’s four-race streak of not making it to the second stage in Qualifying. The user wrote, “For the first time in 4 races Alpha Tauri get out of Q1 and it’s with Daniel Ricciardo” I actually cannot believe it.” At the same time, another fan mentioned that the Australian driver was back with a bang. The fan said, “Bang!!! The perfect start for him, sooo sooo happy for him.”
One fan highlighted that Red Bull’s Sergio Perez would be concerned with Ricciardo’s impressive performance amidst rumors of being replaced in the future. The fan replied, “count your days sergio perez” Lastly, one user mentioned that traffic allowed the Australian driver to progress to the next session. The user stated, “Traffic merchant.”
Thus, Daniel has had a great start to his first GP this season. The Australian driver has managed to outperform Yuki Tsunoda in the first Qualifying session. Certainly, this would be a major boost to the morale of the 34-year-old as he tries to prove his worth in F1 once again. Although, for Tsunoda, there remains some work to be done in the race on Sunday.
