The Sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix had an exciting start, but it turned dramatic with two early retirements. Unfortunately, American rookie Logan Sargeant was one of the casualties at the Lusail International Circuit. Sargeant faced many challenges during his first race here, and things took a dramatic turn on Lap 4 of the 19-lap race when the safety car was deployed again due to his sudden exit.

Sargeant’s bad luck struck as he was chasing his teammate. While approaching turn 6, a crucial part of the track, he lost control of his car. This caused his car to spin wildly and get stuck in the gravel. Sadly, he had to quit the race, leaving both fans and the team disappointed.

The Qatar Grand Prix had not been kind to Sargeant in the days leading up to this dramatic exit. He had already faced adversity earlier in the weekend when his lap time was cruelly deleted due to a breach of track limits. It was a harsh reminder of the steep learning curve in Formula 1, especially at a demanding circuit like Lusail.

Furthermore, even the fans were quickly onto the American’s case. Since the racing incident, the Williams Racing driver has been trolled mercilessly all over social media.

Fans urge Williams to replace Logan Sargeant in 2024

As news of Sargeant’s misadventure spread across social media, it was met with a mix of empathy and resignation from fans. Comparisons were inevitably drawn to his predecessor in the Williams team, Nicholas Latifi, who also had his fair share of struggles in the sport.

Adding to the pressure on Sargeant is the precarious nature of his Formula 1 career. Here are some of the reactions:

Meanwhile, on the grid, Logan Sargeant is the only one to not have a confirmed spot for the next season after a recent crash. So, the fans think Felipe Drugovich, a rising star and rumored Brazilian F2 champion, who also serves as Aston Martin‘s reserve driver, might replace Sargeant. Subsequently, this hope excites people as they will get to see new talents like Drugovich joining the sport. Further, Sargeant’s crash also made his future uncertain.
