Formula 1 is banking heavily on the Las Vegas Grand Prix next year, with an investment of reportedly 500 million going into the facility itself. According to Adam Stern of the Sports Business Journal, hotel + event packages from MGM Resorts could retail up to $100,000. It seems to be an event in the vein of Monaco, with its fame for casinos, and Singapore, with the events around the race being part of the spectacle.

At the recent launch party of the aforementioned Las Vegas Grand Prix, Sergio Perez, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton were among those present. Russell and Hamilton drove their W12s through the streets, also doing donuts. Perez also did donuts, in an older Red Bull car. With ‘no hands’.

This is clearly quite a unique sight, and fans present on the scene must have been delighted. Fans on social media certainly were, and came out to express their thoughts and awe on the spectacle.

A fan present on the scene also posted some more videos that he recorded of Sergio Perez, and as the video also makes clear, this person was not the only one to be recording such a ‘unique’ experience, with many holding up their phone’s camera.

Seeing a driver doing donuts with hands off the steering wheel is quite a sight to behold, and one fan thinks that Perez stole the show there.

An appropriate moniker considering his popularity and the fact that he’s won all except one of his races at street circuits – Baku, Monaco, and more recently, Singapore.

Seeing a Red Bull doing donuts while holding their hand up reminded one fan of Sebastian Vettel’s own famous donuts from the 2013 Indian Grand Prix after he had sealed his championship crown.

The older generation of Formula 1 cars had quite the sound, which makes one fan think that the crowd might be disappointed at seeing the change in the newer 2022 cars. Of course, Lewis Hamilton had also taken the 2021 W12 for a spin there, so the crowd must have heard that as well.

One fan on Reddit expressed his disbelief at how doing donuts like this was possible.

This is just a preview, of course. Audiences in Vegas will surely be looking forward to seeing the cars in ACTUAL action, as well as the parties one can assume will be happening following it. It’s going to be quite the event.
