During the Japanese GP qualifying session at Suzuka, the American rookie, Logan Sargeant, brought it to a premature halt. Six minutes into the Q1 session, the American driver lost control, careening into the barriers at the final turn. Exiting the final chicane and approaching the last right-hand turn, the Williams driver grappled with an unexpected oversteer twitch, unable to regain control.
Logan Sargeant, whose rookie season had been marred by inconsistency, now faced his second crash in four races during qualifying. Despite displaying commendable speed on occasion, his frequent accidents raised doubts about his future with the Williams team. The crash triggered a red flag, halting the session temporarily, as the young driver emerged from the wrecked car unscathed. Subsequently, he was ushered to the medical center for a precautionary checkup.
Williams team principal James Vowles shared his reaction, speaking on Sky F1 broadcast on Sargeant’s crash, saying, “Heart-breaking for Logan and the guys. The disappointment element is it’s a lot of work overnight.” He added, “More importantly Logan built up to this weekend and started to have some good pace. Just can’t get it altogether.”
