Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is on cloud nine after securing his fourth podium of the 2023 F1 season. He applauded his team for working hard and for their spectacular start to the year. The Spaniard scored 15 points in every race weekend so far and collected his fourth podium at the Miami GP.

After climbing out of his car in Miami, Alonso stated that he has always been motivated. By now it is clear that the Spaniard resents anyone who does not believe in his abilities and questions his motivation. It has always been this way. Throwback to 2016, Alonso suffered from a rib injury due to a crash in Melbourne and was declared unfit for the next race. But he claimed he recovered and pleaded with the FIA to let him race.

After the crash, Johnny Herbert, former racing driver, and F1 pundit, questioned Alonso whether his motivation and ability were at the level of his peak years. The Spaniard got offended due to the disrespect and stated, “That’s why you were never a champion.” He then stormed off. Shortly after this incident, he was interviewed by Mark Hughes from Motorsport.

Hughes asked Alonso about his outburst. The double-world champion stated, “I felt a little bit of a lack of professional respect. But also it was because he questioned my motivation. On the very weekend that I am trying to get the FIA to allow me to race with cracked ribs and a pneumothorax! In 2014 with an uncompetitive car, I made triple the points of Kimi Raikkonen.

The Spaniard added, “In 2015, I was pushing the car in Hungary to the pitlane. So say I’m slow, ugly whatever, but not that I’m not motivated. It makes no sense.” It is 2023 now and Fernando Alonso has the same spark and motivation he had when he first entered the sport.

Alonso is back fighting in the front after years of patience, as his team have provided him with a good package. The AMR23 is only second to the mighty Red Bull. Fernando Alonso is third in the 2023 drivers championship standings.

He has collected 75 points in total due to his consistent performance. He missed out on a podium finish in Baku but stayed close as he finished P4. Alonso is delighted to drive for Aston Martin, and the team celebrates him. The 41-year-old is the perfect example of age being just a number.
