Fernando Alonso candidly admits Aston Martin will not be ‘fighting for anything’ for the remainder of the season

The Aston Martin F1 team faces a massive performance slump in the late season. The team started with an amazing pace in 2023, and multiple people on the grid talked about the ‘Red Bull resonance’ of the Silverstone team. After the mid-season break, it appears that the updates brought to the AMR23 are not working out in the team’s favor.
Fernando Alonso had a comfortable third spot in the championship title. But due to multiple dry races, Alonso is now at fifth. After the Mexican weekend, the Spaniard expressed frustration and claimed that the team was not fighting for anything. The Spaniard talked about the team’s current situation in the constructors and commented on that.
Honestly, we are not fighting for anything, In the constructors’ championship, we are locked in in the position we are. In the driver’s championship, we will lose a couple of places.

The 43-year-old veteran later added that it is still incredible how the team is ahead of the two Ferraris and even George Russell. Nevertheless, the team is bound to lose the driver standings as well, according to Alonso.
I mean, it is incredible that we are in front of Ferraris, or George or Lando or whatever, but we will lose those positions. They have a very fast car. And yet, let's see what we can do.
Fernando Alonso proclaimed that the team is trying to get back on track
The two-time world champion claimed that the team was obviously not happy with the recent results. He added that Aston Martin is working with as much as they can. Alonso was adamant that the British team was doing its best to improve their current state.
Alonso also claimed that the team is continuously learning from their mistakes and gaining information for the machinery for the next year. The veteran additionally claimed that the team is running multiple tests and sending them back to the Silverstone factory to finish on a high note this season, hopefully.
The season has three more races left, and Alonso has reciprocated his faith in Aston Martin to develop the car. The Spaniard hopes that the drivers will feel satisfied with the car by the season’s end. Subsequently, Fernando Alonso added that the team will not focus on podiums but just to finish in a competitive way. The driver feels that the Silverstone-based team still has the potential to finish the season on a high note and look forward to the next season.
