Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso blames himself for his poor performance after a difficult Mexican GP Qualifying. Alonso believes he has been on a lack of rhythm in all the sessions this weekend. Although the Spaniard did criticize the car and its setup but doesn’t think the whole problem is the car. His being on the back foot and not being able to trust the car is also a major reason for his underperformance.
The double World Champion only qualified 13th and his teammate 19th after being eliminated in Q2 and Q1 respectively. He shed light on his unableness to keep the car under control at high-speed corners and curbs. The Spaniard believes he is not at his absolute best this weekend. Alonso is not able to extract the full potential of the car that follows an ever-changing upgrade from race to race.

The Aston Martins are following the same upgrades on both cars after they split it in Austin. So believes the Spaniard and calls it the right decision.
This weekend has been particularly difficult for me. I was not doing a good job, this weekend, I felt always on the backfoot, and I was always not trusting the car. We have been struggling the whole weekend.Fernando Alonso said in the interview with Autosport
They need to work together to reach their best level, which they haven’t achieved yet. Fernando Alonso’s challenges during Friday’s Practice and Qualifying stemmed from his lack of trust in the car. Nonetheless, he remains hopeful about Sunday’s race, where they’ll start from the grid, unlike in Austin.
Mike Krack’s reaction to the team’s poor Mexico GP Qualifying
Aston Martin’s team principal Mike Krack spoke about the team’s Qualifying session at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. He believes the disappointment is for the whole team and not only the drivers. Says there’s still time to improve overnight and review and analyze for improvements before the lights out.

In his post-qualifying interview, Krack expressed disappointment with the qualifying session. He mentioned that they had hoped for better competitiveness, but the drivers felt uneasy in the car. Despite this, Krack sees the progress made since the Austin GP as a significant step forward, allowing them to earn points despite starting from the pit lane.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Krack’s goal is to score points and maximize their performance. If they find substantial improvements, they might use the same upgrades on both cars.
