Fernando Alonso and Le Mans

Fernando Alonso, despite being 41-year-old has made it known that he still has it in him to drive in both F1 and the Le Mans event simultaneously. He has been a former 2-time winner in the competition and feels he can do it all over again as, in his opinion, it is way better than sitting in a restaurant or a beach.

Fernando Alonso has been able to put his AMR23 through the wringer this season and has been exceptional in it. While discussing the prospect of competing in the 24hrs Le Mans again, he admitted it’s possible. The Spaniard clarified that competing in two competitions simultaneously is better than relaxing on the off days.

He told FORMU1A.UNO, “You can do it at the same time. I was in the World Endurance Championship and the Formula 1 Championship – so why couldn’t you do just one race [Le Mans]? I did it in 2018, and the calendar there was also very long. You already know my opinion. The more you race and drive, the better you become. Rather than being at a restaurant or at a beach… if you are behind the wheel, that is an advantage for your career,”.

This says a whole lot about the mentality of Alonso despite being 41 years old. He still wants to do challenging things and feels competing in Le Mans while making his trade in F1 will only make him a better driver. This kind of love toward motorsports is heartwarming to see; if he decides to return, he will be gunning for his third Le Mans victory.

While Fernando Alonso has talked about making a return to the Le Mans event one more time, he is currently enjoying his life to the fullest with the Silverstone-based Aston Martin F1 team. The AMR23 has proved to be a potent machinery, and on the back of it, Alonso has managed to score quite a few podium finishes.

Moreover, Aston Martin is following a strict upgrades program which would see the car becoming better and better as the season rolls on. These are happy days for Alonso, and he desperately wants to secure an F1 win this year which has eluded him since 2013. He is currently third in the Drivers Championship with 99 points.

Next up on the F1 calendar is this Sunday’s Canadian GP. Considering that he was able to put an Alpine car in P2 during last year’s qualifying event, there is every chance he could pull out something special from his bag of tricks again. Would Fernando Alonso be seen on the podium at the Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit?
