Fernando Alonso shares a deep love for racing across different disciplines. When the Asturian took a sabbatical from F1 between 2018 and 2020, he participated in the World Endurance Championship including the 24 hours of Le Mans. Now, Alonso showcased interest in WEC once again, this time with Aston Martin.

Fernando Alonso participated in the WEC once under Toyota during his break from F1. Aston Martin is set to enter the WEC in the coming season with a Hypercar program. The Aston Martin Valkyrie will be used for the championship, a car that the F1 veteran would already own by then. Alonso was questioned about his interests in the British carmaker’s WEC campaign. The 42-year-old mentioned that he would like to participate but not at the moment. Additionally, the Asturian shared his love for Valkyrie which he would receive by July.

Yeah, [but] not now. It didn’t come to my mind. I love the Valkyrie. I receive mine [road car version] in July. I'm waiting for so long, because it's one year to deliver!
Fernando Alonso said, as reported by racingnews365.com.

Moreover, Alonso replied “why not” to the opportunity of racing the Valkyrie in the WEC. The Asturian mentioned that driving the iconic car at home and then on the circuit would be ‘beautiful’. Hence, fans could witness the two-time world champion return to WEC with Aston Martin in the coming years.

So why not? Maybe, if I drive that car at home and then drive it on a circuit, that will be beautiful.

Alonso opened up about his feelings regarding working in the same environment as the aero-genius. The Asturian was all praises for the 65-year-old. The 42-year-old also mentioned that he was happy to live and drive cars at the time when Newey was involved in the process.

For me, it’s just an incredible person that I was so lucky to work in the same environment as him, even if we never worked together. I’m happy that I’m living and I’m driving in this time that Adrian Newey is building Formula 1 cars.
Fernando Alonso said, as reported by planetf1.com.

The F1 veteran subsequently declared that he wished to work alongside the aero-genius for once in his lifetime. This dream of the Asturian could come true as Lawrence Stroll had recently showcased an interest in signing Newey for Team Silverstone. Additionally, Alonso asserted that while driving the Valkyrie home, he might feel some feelings of contentment and satisfaction. Hence, the feeling of driving a Newey-designed car would make the 42-year-old happy.

I wish one day I was working with him. I will drive the Valkyrie at home and maybe I feel something already when I jump in and that would make me happy!
Fernando Alonso noted.

With Aston Martin’s entry in WEC, it is possible that Fernando Alonso could join the Valkyrie program. Alonso has previously showcased his racing mettle by participating in multiple motorsports and even winning them. Hence, many fans would be waiting to see the 42-year-old sit in the cockpit of the Newey-designed Valkyrie and race at the prestigious 24 hours of Le Mans.
