Fernando Alonso draws praise from the foreign press: “The 40-year-old driver makes others look old”
Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso made his debut in F1 in 2001 at the Australia Grand Prix, marking the start for one of the most successful drivers in the history of sport. In a matter of 4 years from his start, the Spaniard was able to win his first ever championship as he dethroned Michael Schumacher and ended the era of dominance for Ferrari, which looked like an impossible task at that point in time.
It’s been more than 20 years old for the two time world champion in F1 but age seems to be just a number to him. Fernando Alonso is currently 40 and will turn 41 in a matter of days. But, nothing has slowed him down as he continues to go from strength to strength. He’s currently driving for Alpine and having a fairly impressive season despite the team’s reliability concerns.
There have been times that Fernando has looked one of the fastest drivers on the track but has been let down by his team. We saw that during the Canadian Grand Prix. The Spaniard had a stellar qualifying session to book his slot on the front row of the grid but reliability concerns meant he could only finish P9. Nevertheless, he has been in scintillating form having scored points in six consecutive races.

This has drawn him attention and praise from across the world. German journalist Ludwig Degmayr hailed Fernando Alonso saying, “The 40-year-old driver makes the others look old on his way to the points.”
“To all the critics’ voices that the old man must clear the way for younger talent, it must be said: the young must first learn to drive faster than Alonso and it doesn’t look like that will be the case in the near future.“
“The Alpine will no longer be a winning car this season either, but the French car can do one thing: be fast on the straight, which was shown at the Baku Grand Prix. So if you go to other fast tracks like Spa or Monza, you have to have Alpine and especially Alonso on your list.”
Fernando Alonso continues to be an inspiration for the young breed of drivers coming up the ranks. We hope that he can continue for the longest time so that we get to see his brilliance week in and week out.
