Aston Martin aimed to perform an undercut with Fernando Alonso but the plan didn’t go so well for the team. Alonso was rapidly attacked by cars pitted much after he did, with fresher tires than the Spaniard. The racer took to his radio to convey his annoyance.

Fernando Alonso has now commented on the same radio call. Alonso, when asked about his supposedly ‘angry’ radio call, suggested that the message was taken out of context. Fernando explained saying [to Autosport.com], “I’m not sure exactly what other drivers say when they are behind a car that is slower and on the straight, they are pulling away even when you open the DRS. Maybe they say, ‘I’m okay, I’m happy to stay here and to stay behind’”. The Driver added, “But I prefer to be motivated, to overtake them. On track, as I said, I was slower even with the DRS open.”

The Aston Martin driver also commended his team. Aston Martin decided to pit again and sacrifice the track position in hopes of winning it back by the end of the race. Alonso managed to do just that. The Driver overtook Yuki Tsunoda to finish P8.

Fernando Alonso claims his performance hasn’t dipped since the start of the season

Alonso had a stellar start to the 2023 season with his Aston Martin. The car seemed to gel well with the Veteran’s driving style and looked a competitive machine. Fernando’s results have been getting worse through the season. The Spaniard, however, claims that his performance levels have been the same throughout the year.
