Fernando Alonso, who drives for Aston Martin, has proposed some radical changes in F1 which will help in the key development of the car. The Spaniard said that currently there is only one pre-testing is allowed a season. This limits teams from focusing on every aspect of the case as they can only work on just the key areas of development.
The two-time world champion pointed out that if two or three pre-testing needs to be added in the winter break that will help to make Formula One cars more competitive. Alonso asserted that it is very unfair to see that the start of a season of an F1 team depends on a single pre-season test.
We have a very limited test in Bahrain. I've been thinking about this all winter, how unfair it is that we only have a day and a half to prepare for a world championship. There is no other sport in the world, with all the money involved and with all the marketing and the good things that are said about Formula 1 and about being ever closer to the fans, where this happens.Alonso said, as reported by Motorsport.com
Fernando Alonso claimed that in Bahrain, teams have a very small test. The Spaniard added that all winter long, something was on his mind, and “how unjust” is the fact that racers have just one and a half days to get ready for a world championship. He asserted that there is no other sport in the world where this occurs, not with the amount of money involved.
Fernando Alonso uses Rafael Nadal as an example in his arguments for change
The Spanish Driver said that it isn’t feasible for Rafael Nadal to practice for just a day and a half before heading straight to the French Open after missing 12 weeks of action as that is not going to happen. He insisted that though there would be difficulties, multiple test sessions are necessary.
Could you imagine Rafael Nadal going 12 weeks without hitting a ball and then going straight to the French Open with a day and a half of practice? That would never happen. I understand and recognize why we do it. I think three days with two cars would probably be a good starting point.Alosno said.
When Alonso won his world title, outracing the likes of Michael Schumacher, teams were allowed to do as much testing as they wanted and this allowed teams to make their car better before the season start. But the system has a massive drawback as the bigger teams will have an advantage in such a situation over the minnows.
