While many drivers would lose their motivation to drive after the age of 40, Fernando Alonso is competing in F1 with more passion than ever at 42 years old. The Spaniard is always known to keep a smiling face, and in the High-Performance Podcast, he revealed how he would have liked to enjoy his long career more looking back.

Alonso said that while he would not change anything from his past, he certainly wished that he had enjoyed those experiences more than he did. He said that he is at the end of his career, and he still doesn’t have many memories of his past achievements. He said that he doesn’t remember from the time he won the Championship in Brazil in 2005 and 2006.

“What I certainly regret is not enjoying my time, my career. I know I’m at the end… And when I look back I will see many beautiful things, friendships, fantastic experiences, but I will think I should have enjoyed it more… I would just change the way of living all those moments a little more and I would try to have more memories of those moments,” Alonso is quoted by motorsport.com.

Jenson Button is a British driver who won the 2009 F1 championship. Fernando Alonso raced with Button for McLaren in 2015 and 2016. Button is one the most revered drivers known for his ability to read track conditions in changing weather and make the right tire choices. Alonso talked about this skill of Button’s, stating that it is the one ability he would like to take from him. “I would take from Button, from Jenson, the way of reading these weather conditions… And how the track evolves in damp conditions,” he said.

Button’s most memorable win is probably the 2011 Canadian GP, where he overcame many setbacks to win the longest-ever F1 race. He has an impressive 18% win record in wet races. Alonso has also hailed Button as ‘the best teammate’ ever.
