With a storied career spanning over two decades, Fernando Alonso is one of Formula One’s most seasoned drivers. The proud owner of two championship titles and victor in 32 races, Alonso has navigated the high-speed world of racing with remarkable skill and zest. Amidst accolades and accomplishments, the Spaniard unveils a poignant confession – the absence of a Ferrari championship crowning remains his biggest regret.
In his Ferrari chapter from 2010 to 2014, Fernando Alonso‘s F1 voyage embodied triumphs and tantalizing near-victories. In the 2010 season, he ignited with a Bahrain triumph and fierce duels against racing titans. Through the whirring engines and adrenaline-soaked circuits, the championship’s scent tantalized him. However, the closing curtains of Abu Dhabi concealed his hopes in an ill-planned pitstop, resulting in Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull’s first world championship title.
The following years she witnessed Alonso’s unyielding pursuit against all odds, defying limitations imposed by machinery and rivalries. The battle against Sebastian Vettel shone the Spaniard’s skill as a driver – 2012’s title fell short by a mere breath. The Prancing Horse couldn’t keep up with the juggernaut of Red Bull in 2013 and lost the title. Ferrari waned in the advent of the Mercedes era, and Alonso’s journey converged towards a pivotal decision of exiting the Italian squad, moving to McLaren.
Speaking to Jake Humphrey on the High-Performance Podcast (H&T: F1i.com), Alonso unearths his heart’s reverberations. “Winning a championship with Ferrari, that will probably be the first thing I choose if I can go back in time,” Alonso asserts. He acknowledges the 2010, 2012 titles slipping from his grasp saying, “2010, 2012, we were within a few laps of winning the championship. That probably could have changed a little bit the outcome of many things, the history behind a few things.”

Fernando Alonso also regrets not living the best moments in life a little more
Fernando’s regrets encompass more than titles. “What I regret, for sure, was not to enjoy more my time, my career,” Alonso laments. The rearview mirror reveals fleeting moments lost in the pursuit of perfection. The Spanish driver mentions that he knows his career is ending soon. He expects to have a new phase of life without driving in a few years. Looking back on his career, he claims that he “will see a lot of good things and good friendships and incredible experiences.”
Fernando Alonso clinched two championship titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006, engaging in intense battles against formidable opponents like Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher. As he reflects on his career, Alonso admits that he should have relished those victories more fully. He states, “But it’s like I should have enjoyed [it] more.”
Contemplating the past, he envisions reliving his life without altering team choices or the Ferrari championship win. Instead, he’d opt to immerse himself in those moments, forging richer memories. Recalling his championship victories in Brazil during those years, he laments, “I won the championship in Brazil in 2005 and 2006, and I hardly remember anything from those afternoons and nights which is sad.”
