Fernando Alonso reveals why he supports younger drivers

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso is one of the most polarizing but beloved drivers on the Formula 1 grid. The Spaniard has a large and dedicated fanbase, even though he may not be popular on the grid itself. Nevertheless, there is no doubt about his abilities, and that he is one of the finest drivers of his generation.

The Spaniard is known for extracting the best out of his car and often for making the best of a bad situation. This season, while Alonso has impressed in the cockpit, fortune has often abandoned him. In Canada, he had issues with his car and later received a penalty. In Austria, he was forced to make pit stops on consecutive laps due to a loose tyre, in a race where his pace had been very strong.

Currently, the Spaniard sits 10th in the Driver’s Championships, but many would agree that his performance likely warrants more for him. Alpine’s current goal for the season is 4th place – which they are competing for with McLaren, with the two teams currently being level on points. But from 2023, he targets victory. Aside from his exploits on the grid, Alonso also supports younger drivers in Motorsport.

As reported by NextGen-Auto, Fernando Alonso has been helping young drivers make their first steps and climb their way through the motorsport world for quite some time now, especially in karting and Formula Renault. At the beginning of 2022, he also founded A14 (Alonso 14) Management, intended to be a support and career management company for young drivers.

His management team currently supports three drivers, one of whom is Clément Novalak, currently in his first full season in Formula 2 with MP Motorsport. On this, Alonso commented: “I help young drivers and I have set up a karting circuit because I want to give something back to the sport that has given me so much.”

He also says that he will be in contact with MP Motorsport again: “We have placed the Formula 2 driver, Clément Novalak, with MP. We plan to hire other drivers in F3 and F4. I will soon show my face to Westmaas.” Westmaas in Netherlands is the location of MP Motorsport’s headquarters.
