Fernando Alonso, the Alpine F1 driver, has made a bold statement by indicating that he has lost over 60 points in the 2022 F1 Championship because of the reliability issues of the A522.

Fernando Alonso being extremely frustrated with how the season has panned out has even gone on to say that, he would have been very near to the Mercedes drivers had he not been the focal point of bad luck this season.

The Singapore GP was another one of those weekends that the Spaniard would want to forget, after starting the race from a very good position, his exploits were yet again, cut short by the poor reliability of his car.

Moreover, what made things worse was the fact that it happened to him in his 350th start in F1. With Singapore’s woes, Fernando’s DNF count now stands at 4.

Alonso is not happy with the situation that he is in currently, and while talking about his points tally said, “If you put me on 60 points more in the standings and you reduce 10 or something for the others because you take points from the others as well, my championship would look much better and close even to the Mercedes.”

Fernando Alonso at 41 years old, is driving at the peak of his powers and has amassed a lot of praise from up and down the paddock. He has been in stupendous form and is closing the gap to Esteban Ocon in the Driver’s Championship.

While Fernando believes that with 60 more points, he could have been closer to Mercedes, his statement does not fully hold as true, Lewis Hamilton is on 170 points, and even with 60 additional points, the Spaniard would have been behind the Brit.

Moreover, as things stand, Lewis is the least of his worries as after Singapore’s double DNF, Alpine has slipped to fifth in the Constructors Championship.
