Fernando Alonso, the former 2-time world champion, might be getting old but still has not lost his competitive spirit or the fighting edge. His exploits during last weekend’s race were simply class, but while he managed a brilliant P3, he also set a record he would want to forget as soon as possible.
Fernando Alonso has been making his trade at the pinnacle of motor racing for several years and thus has been to Interlagos many a time. His recent podium was the ninth of his career at the Brazil GP, but despite this, he has not won a single race at the event. He now holds the record for most podiums without a win in Sao Paulo.
While the record is something that a driver would not ideally want to see on his CV, it speaks volumes about how consistent the 42-year-old has been in Sao Paulo. Moreover, to get a better outlook, one can look at his tremendous battle with Sergio Perez during this year’s event.

The two prolific drivers gave their all during the final lap of the race, and ultimately, Alonso could clinch the third place off of Perez by the skin of his teeth. It was an extremely close battle that once again made people realize why they fell in love with the pinnacle of motor racing in the first place.
Fernando Alonso has managed to score eight podium finishes in 2023
While Fernando Alonso now has an unwanted F1 record to his name, he has been nothing short of brilliant during the 2023 F1 season. Since joining the Aston Martin F1 team, Alonso has found an extra spring in his step and thus has been able to showcase what he still can do in the sport.
Alonso has so far managed to score eight podium finishes, which is equal to what Sergio Perez has been able to score in the mighty RB19. Moreover, he currently sits in fourth place in the driver’s championship with 198 points and could get up to third if things go in his favor in the upcoming races.
