Fernando Alonso qualified on the front row for the Miami Grand Prix. The Spaniard clocked 1:27:202 and will start second on the grid for the upcoming race. He is only behind Sergio Perez, who took his first pole position in Miami. Alonso had a good pace throughout the session and moved to the front of the grid. However, this was also due to a red flag that ended Q3.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed with less than two minutes to go, which hampered other drivers’ Q3 run. Some participants gained an advantage, like Alonso, who was promoted to P2. He has three podium finishes from the first four races of the season. But he had to settle for the fourth place last weekend in Azerbaijan. It is safe to say Alonso is having the time of his life with his new team, Aston Martin.

After qualifying second at the Miami Grand Prix, Alonso took a dig at his former team, Alpine. He spoke to Danica Patrick post-qualifying on his success with Aston Martin this season. Alonso stated, “I think I’ve been always motivated. I’ve been always working hard, but I didn’t have probably the team believing in my performance, in my ability to set up the car as well and to move forward.”

The 41-year-old could not help but throw shade at Alpine. He revealed that the French outfit did not believe in his capabilities. Alonso also praised Aston Martin and credited them for giving him a fast car. He said, “And also I never had a fast car as I have now. So I think that’s the reason.I didn’t change anything, but Aston Martin changed everything for me.”

Fernando Alonso hopes for another top-three finish this weekend. And with his skills and the AMR23 combined, he has a high chance of standing on the podium. The Spaniard has been having a good time in Miami. But there was an incident that annoyed him during Friday’s practice session. Alonso claimed that his former teammate, Esteban Ocon, tried to “compete with him in free practice.”

Fernando Alonso complained about Ocon over his team radio. His engineer warned him to be careful, as the Spaniard was on a fast lap. The world champion mocked his former team, saying, “Yes, understood. Free practice is your time.” It is safe to say that Alonso implied Aston Martin are way beyond Alpine’s reach on race day.
