Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is standing up to rumors. He warns media and journalists about spreading false stories. Despite questions about his 2024 seat, Alonso stays loyal to his team. These rumors are testing his loyalty and patience, but he’s responding.
The rumors were reportedly started by a Spanish TV journalist, Albert Fabrega. Fabrega posted a tweet hinting at a big story developing in the paddock. Although he didn’t specify what kind of story was developing, he hinted at a possible driver market shuffle involving Alonso.
In his recent interview reported by Autosport, Alonso said:
It is just rumors, from people who are just trying to make fun of and gain some followers. But I will make sure that there are consequences.
He believes these rumors can not be invented by the journalists and pundits who have been working with Formula 1 for years, but rather by people who are not there (in the paddock). He further said:
Those are just here to make fun and I think it's not funny when they play with anything. But I'm not into that game.
Although, the Spaniard didn’t choose to elaborate on what he meant by consequences. But, questioning his loyalty was an arrow aimed right toward him.
Fernando Alonso is not happy with the team’s current form but remains positive
The 2005 and 06 F1 World Champion, Fernando Alonso believes it’s hard to accept the current form the Aston Martin team is facing. He said not even team principal Mike Krack or the CEO Lawrence Stroll are happy about this sudden decline in performance. But the Spaniard wants to keep his heads up and believes the team’s performance is only going to be upwards from here and the next year.
Fernando Alonso expressed that the team isn’t as competitive as desired, noting the significant growth in personnel and a new factory over the past two years. While this season’s progress has been slow, the team has achieved seven podium finishes and 200 more points than the previous year.
Aston Martin currently holds the fifth position in the Constructors Standings. To improve their standing by season-end, significant effort is required. Alternatively, the team may opt to shift focus towards the development of next year’s car. The next F1 race will take place at Interlagos from November 3-5.
