Fernando Alonso, the two-time Formula One champion, has been waiting for almost a decade to claim another Grand Prix victory. But according to F1 legend Emerson Fittipaldi, Alonso’s dry spell may come to an end soon. In a recent interview, Fittipaldi spoke candidly about the current state of F1 racing and offered his prediction for when Alonso might finally taste victory once again.

“I definitely think Fernando is one of the favorites to win at Monaco,” said Emerson Fittipaldi in an interview with AS. “As we know, on this particular track, the mechanics are the same, and anything can happen. The fight for pole position will be crucial, as 70% of the time, the one who starts first wins the race. Qualifying will be essential, and Fernando will undoubtedly do well. However, despite the minor differences between the cars, there are two obstacles in his way: Max Verstappen and ‘Checo’ Pérez. They will also perform well in Monaco, but Fernando will have his chances. If he’s lucky, he can definitely win there.”

Fernando Alonso has been in stellar form this season with Aston Martin, securing three consecutive third-place finishes and occupying the third spot in the drivers’ standings. However, despite his impressive performances, the Spaniard’s quest for a win has proved elusive since his victory at the Spanish GP in 2013, leaving his legion of fans anxiously anticipating when he will finally break his drought.

Fittipaldi was quick to point out the recent success of Alonso and Aston Martin. “Aston Martin is undoubtedly the surprise of the championship so far, and Fernando is the ideal driver to extract the full potential of that car,” he said. “I am convinced that this is not a coincidence or a flash in the pan and that Alonso is going to be very fast throughout the year to the surprise of many.”

When asked if he believes Alonso would be able to compete at the highest level for several years, Fittipaldi expressed confidence in the Spaniard’s ability. With Fittipaldi’s endorsement, Alonso’s chances of winning at Monaco seem to be brighter than ever. Monaco, which is one of the most prestigious races on the F1 calendar, requires skill, precision, and a bit of luck. Alonso has won the race twice in the past, in 2006 and 2007, and he will be hoping to add a third victory to his impressive record.
