“Fernando is kind of an inspiration,” Daniel Ricciardo admits that he wants to follow in the footsteps of legendary Spanish driver
Daniel and Fernando
Daniel Ricciardo, whose future is not certain at the moment, has indicated that he looks up to Fernando Alonso for being able to deliver in F1 despite him being 41 years old.
Fernando Alonso, this year, is driving at his level best and this has come as a huge surprise to many people up and down the paddock, considering, he is the oldest guy on the 2022 F1 grid.
Daniel who himself is 33 years old while talking about the longevity of the Spaniard’s career has said, “If you keep winning, it would probably be difficult to stop. I’m not saying it will happen, but if I’m still 39 be in Formula 1, and win races, then I would probably continue.”
“Fernando is kind of an inspiration for me because he’s a grandpa.” And no sooner has he uttered this sentence than Ricciardo follows with a grin: “I guess that will probably also be a headline …“
Keeping all the fun aside Ricciardo further added, “Fernando’s still got it, he’s going really well. So I guess it just comes down to whether you can still put in the effort, whether you still want to. Then you just hang in there and play your body and your health, you can still race at this level.”
Daniel Ricciardo has admitted that he wants to win more F1 races by the time he turns 40
Daniel Ricciardo has so far in his F1 career won eight Grand Prix and has admitted that he wants to add a few more wins in the coming years of the sport if he is still around.
While talking about the same, Ricciardo said, “I would ideally like to win a few more races before I turn 40!“
The Australian has made it clear that despite not having a seat for 2023, he still sees his future in the sport and wants to get on the top podium a few more times before his time to retire comes around.
His current McLaren seat has been given to the Alpine reserve driver, Oscar Piastri, and considering that the French team has got its eyes on Pierre Gasly as a potential driver for next season, the 33-year-old is running out of options at a pretty brisk pace and it is going to be fascinating to see whether he would be able to get a race seat for next year and stretch his career as long as Fernando Alonso has been able to do.
