Ferrari confirm short-term fix for Carlos Sainz’s car in Montreal; initial assessment concluded for Charles Leclerc’s engine
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz
Ferrari has come up with an update regarding the whereabouts of Charles Leclerc’s engine which was not able to cope with the heat of Azerbaijan during the last Grand Prix.
As per Ferrari, Leclerc’s damaged engine is set to arrive at their factory tomorrow and an inspection of the same is expected to be completed by evening.
While Leclerc’s engine will be looked at tomorrow, the hydraulic components that led to Carlos Sainz’s DNF in Baku have already been checked and the team has a short-term plan in place for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
The Maranello-based Italian outfit via their Twitter handle has said, “PostBaku update: Charles’ engine arrives at the factory tomorrow, an initial assessment should be completed by the evening. Hydraulic components from Carlos’ car have already been examined. A short-term fix is in place for Canada, while work is on-going on mid/long-term solutions.”
Going by the Ferrari update, it seems for Carlos the team has come up with a short-term fix that in their opinion would be able to do a decent job on the fast-paced Montreal circuit.
However, as far as Leclerc is concerned a definitive decision is yet to be made as his engine is due to arrive tomorrow, and only after its inspection the team would be able to decide on what they can do to make Leclerc’s F1-75 competitive as well.
Canadian Grand Prix is crucial for Ferrari to close the gap with Red Bull
After Azerbaijan’s double DNF the prancing horse has lost big time to Red Bull in terms of points in both the Championships and the upcoming race could prove vital if Ferrari is to make a comeback into the Championship picture.
The Italian team is currently 34 points behind Red Bull in the Driver’s Championship with Leclerc whereas the situation is even worse when it comes to the Constructors.
Red Bull is currently on 279 points after 8 rounds whereas Ferrari is in second place with only 199 points to its name. The buffer is really big in the Constructors standings.
Given how far behind Ferrari is to Red Bull, it is going to be up to the Ferrari team to make sure that their car is reliable starting from the upcoming Grand Prix onwards because otherwise, the situation can get worse for the team and they might get left empty-handed at the end of the season.
