Ferrari decides to introduce new power unit following Carlos Sainz’s debacle at Albert Park

Carlos Sainz will have a new power unit at the Imola GP. The problem with the power unit could be one of the reasons behind Carlos’ poor qualification in Australia. The driver started P9 in Australia and had a poor start as well. He dropped several places and later spun into the gravel, which brought his race to an early end.

Ferrari decided to bring this early than they had planned, as reported by Formu1a.uno. The source quotes, “Carlos Sainz, already at Imola, will be equipped with the engine with ‘reinforced’ ICE, as well as fresh, which will be able to guarantee extra horsepower. The PU2 will be mounted immediately since, being a weekend with a Sprint Race format.”

Carlos currently stands P3 in the drivers’ championship despite not finishing one of the three races. In the remaining two, he has finished P2 and P3, contributing massively to Ferrari’s contention for the constructors’ championship. This has also earned him a contract extension until the end of the 2024 season, expiring at the same time as his teammate Charles Leclerc. With a new contract in its place, Carlos has added pressure and responsibility to perform over a long time.

Carlos Sainz will not receive any penalty for this change. The new power unit might put him above his teammate if he taps into his maximum ability. It also provides him an opportunity to bag the first win of his career.

As reported by Formu1a.uno, the older unit of Sainz would still be available for use. They say, “First unit, as understood by Formu1a.uno, can still be recovered and therefore reused on the Friday of the next weekend as well as on weekends, such as the Monte Carlo GP.”

Sainz is all set for the weekend with new contract extension details out in public. The Imola GP would be like a fresh start for the Spanish, ready to unleash the pace of the new power unit.
