Ferrari presidents hints ‘deep changes’ at Sceduria to turn things around after dismal 2023 start
John Elkann emphasized on the need to bring drastic changes in Scuderia Ferrari.

Scuderia Ferrari has failed to win a championship in F1 since 2008. The Italian team has come close to winning the title on a few occasions, yet issues have continued to persist in Maranello. Ferrari has got off to an underwhelming start to the 2023 F1 season despite new Team Principal Fred Vasseur. John Elkann, the president of Ferrari’s majority stakeholding company, declared that things were about to change.
The 47-year-old stated that major changes would take place at Ferrari in a letter sent to the stakeholders of the Italian auto giant. John Elkann wrote, “Deep changes are underway within the walls of Maranello, in particular in strengthening sports on the track” This potentially hints at a shake-up of the F1 team’s operations in order to ensure that Scuderia can compete for the championship.
Elkann insisted that these changes would bring Ferrari closer to the dream of its founder, Enzo Ferrari. As the 47-year-old mentioned, the legacy of Enzo is still being carried within the Scuderia to this day. John explained, “the push towards progress that our founder Enzo Ferrari had in his heart, which continues to keep the people of Ferrari humble and ambitious in building the future of the Prancing Horse.”

“Enough with politics and games,” John Elkann’s brother Lapo Elkann

John’s comments come just days after his brother Lapo took to social media to mention the need for change in Ferrari. Lapo Elkann had declared that the politics inside Maranello must end to get the team back to winning ways. He said, “Ferrari needs seriousness and a winning team, in the pits and outside, it’s time to wake up. Enough with politics and games, so you will never win.” It is believed that Fred Vasseur‘s addition was a step to change the team’s atmosphere.
Scuderia Ferrari has failed to get a good start to the 2023 season. Charles Leclerc has publicly expressed his frustration as the Monegasque driver has only scored 6 points in three races so far. Carlos Sainz too, acknowledged the difficulties faced by the Scuderia this season. Presently, Vasseur is expected to influence the team’s culture for the better during his team as Team Principal.
Thus, Ferrari will witness drastic changes in the coming weeks. Many might consider this a necessary move by John Elkann and Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna. The Scuderia has one of the biggest budgets on the grid and the availability of immense resources. Yet, the Prancing Horse has failed to win the F1 world championship for a long time.
