“Ferrari was dominated,” Italian Media lays down the facts following Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz’s horrendous performances

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz had a nightmare of weekend for Ferrari in a race that they longed for after a splendid start to the season. The duo would obviously wanted to impress the Tifosi and thank them for all their unquestionable support despite Ferrari’s challenging decade. This was the race when the Ferrari drivers looked best suited to do it but it seems like they cracked under the immense pressure of a home Grand Prix.

Everything that could go wrong for Ferrari did go wrong for them. We all expected the Italian Giants to capitalize on a circuit perfectly suited for them. The circuit around Imola only had one DRS zone and a lot of high speed corners where the F1-75 has had an edge over the bulkier Red Bull’s RB-18.

But to everyone’s surprise, Red Bull, courtesy of their upgrade, was able to counter Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz going into the corners. We can’t blame Carlos Sainz as he was forced to spin out of the race following Daniel Ricciardo’s mistake. But the decision making of Charles Leclerc was highly questionable. He looked set to secure a podium when he decided to push and chase down Sergio Perez which led to him crashing and costing him three positions and a lot of valuable points.

Italian Media has not held itself back after Ferrari’s dismal performance in their own backyard. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported, ““It is a reality that is difficult to accept for the red Torcida of Imola, who dreamed of a totally different GP of Emilia Romagna.”

Foglio also wrote, “In Imola, Ferrari waited for Red Bull to dominate again, but instead it was dominated.”

Corriere Della: The enthusiasm, the nervousness, the confusion and the pressure of the fans can cause the blackout of a moment, even for Leclerc,” as reported by gpblog.

As much as the Italian Media loves their drivers, it also knows how to give it back when the performances are not up to the mark. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will have to take it in their strides and right the wrongs of Imola in Miami.
