The Ferrari F1 team has started the 2023 campaign on the back foot, with rumors of an internal rift in the team making the rounds. Things have been quite chaotic at the Italian team, and its Chairman’s brother, Lapo Elkann, has recently given a concerning verdict on the prospects of the team at the pinnacle of motor racing. Ferrari is one of the most successful teams in the history of the sport, but their recent form has been concerning. The last F1 championship title Sceduria won came way back in 2007.
The 2023 woes of Ferrari have been visible for everyone to see during the first three races of the 2023 season, and Lapo Elkann feels that the team needs to get its house in order before it could look to challenge for the Championship. While talking about the same, he added, “Ferrari needs seriousness and winning team in the pits and outside it’s time to wake up enough with politics and games. Like this, We Will Never Win.”
By the looks of Lapo Elkann’s comments, he has made it clear that, like most of the global fans of the Maranello-based Scuderia Ferrari F1 team, he is extremely frustrated with how this year’s season has panned out for the team so far. Moreover, he is also saddened by the internal state of affairs on the team, which came into the 2023 season with the hope of challenging for the F1 World Championship.
After three races of the ongoing campaign, Ferrari has only managed to score 26 points and is currently fourth in the Constructors Championship behind the lights of Mercedes, Aston Martin, and the mighty Red Bull F1 team. Moreover, the state in the Drivers Championship is even worse, Carlos Sainz is in fifth with 20 points, whereas Charles Leclerc has only managed to amass 6 points and is currently a disappointing tenth in the Championship.
Ferrari hasn’t quite jelled as a unit in the last few years in F1

The Ferrari F1 team last saw its driver at the top of the sport in Kimi Raikkonen won the F1 World Championship. Since then, the team has come close several times, but the last few years have been extremely disappointing. In 2022, the team had the car that was able to challenge Max Vertstappen, and co, but because of a plethora of reasons, their challenge ran out of steam around the midway point of the season.
If one goes back, one will realize that Ferrari ended the 2020 F1 season in the sixth position in the Constructors Championship. While things have improved significantly since then, the Italian outfit still lacks the spark that is needed in order to win the F1 World Championship. Moreover, the internal conflict within the team has also played a role in the lackluster performances this year.
What Lapo Elkann has said about the Italian team is quite right, and if Fred Vasseur and Co. want to have a serious go at the championship this year, they would have to start performing in the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix. If there are no serious improvements, then there is a very good chance that the team could be seen fighting in the midfield this year.
