Introducing the $1 million maximum fine limit has raised eyebrows in the F1 grid. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has now clarified the true reason behind this decision after backlash. According to Sulayem, the primary aim of this immense fine is to emphasize the FIA’s commitment to the safety and fairness of the sport. He believes this threat of fine will keep the teams under the regulation and won’t break the rules unnecessarily.

He believes in this fast-changing world, the price of everything is increasing. So, to adhere to that, teams and drivers would be more cautious about breaking rules. He means that if the teams do everything fairly and safely, no one will impose anything on them. But the question remains: what is the meaning of this hefty fine when most of the grid can’t even afford it?

Mohammed Ben Sulayem thinks when all the teams on the grid are valued in billions, these fines are just mere numbers. And the only reason to implement them is for them to be monitored and enforced.

It’s not a question of money, but of respecting the rules. If they stick to the regulation, no one will impose anything.

Ben Sulayem said, as reported by SpeedWeek.

He also addressed the concerns over the usage of the fines by the FIA. He refuted all cynicism and confirmed that the money would be re-invested into the sport. Ben Sulayem is also confident that the drivers are smart enough to know the rules every time they hop into their cars.

I see a lot of exaggerations. If someone is penalized, the money still ends up within motorsport and would be invested in the sport.

Formula 1 Teams’ reaction to FIA’s newly introduced 1 million fine-limit

After implementing FIA’s new 1 million dollar fines, the federation faced backlash from teams and drivers alike. The Mercedes team boss, Toto Wolff, says the FIA needs a reality check with real life for these enormous fines.

“We have spectators here that are buying tickets already for quite high prices,” said the Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack. According to the Haas team boss, Guenther Steiner, the drivers should have a say in where this money goes. These unreal fines are a show in the face of the racing fans who are barely able to afford one ticket to a Grand Prix.

It’s obvious why all the teams and drivers are disappointed in this decision by the federation. This new fine limit is now unchangeable, and the teams must stay very careful about every rule while racing.
