Zak Brown believes Formula 1 is moving to the commercial era where few races don’t have a place in the calendar permanently. But these are mostly those traditional tracks which lack marketing. 

The recent Miami Grand Prix was a success, not on track but totally off track, and it is where the market is built. Monaco has been on the calendar for a long time now, it is considered to be a Crown Jewel of the sport. But it always fails to provide on-track performance, the only reason it has been on the calendar is because of the Peoples Attraction it has gathered over the years.

Tracks like Imola, Monza, France, and Hungry, even though not mentioned by Zak himself but were pointed towards them. These tracks stand no chance when it comes to the commercial engagement tracks in Singapore, Miami, and Silverstone bring, which could be more essential to the market Formula 1 wants to bring by adding more new circuits in Las Vegas.

This is similarly viewed by Zak, he reported “There are a lot of great events on the Formula 1 calendar now – Singapore, Miami, Silverstone. They all have different brands and how they put on events because what works in America is different to the UK and Singapore etcetera.”

“I think what Formula 1 is looking to do is to get them more in line, understanding and respecting what they bring to the table, but also to catch up to where the commercial realities of Formula 1 are today.”

Olympics and World Cups could be the solution for the traditional track not being able to provide that market F1 is looking forward to. These sports follow a rotational system, which means they only happen after a certain number of years, in these cases four.

Formula 1 could also remove tracks from every year’s calendar and try rotating them after a certain amount of years. With 23 races this year the sport can push to a limit of 28 races in a season, in which they could have 16-17 races every year and try rotating other 10 races.

This solution would get that excitement for those traditional races back inside the people and would create a market if done after a few years. 

Zak was the one who came up with this idea  “So you’re running 20 to 23 races a year but maybe you have 28 markets and so you have 16-17 core races and 10 that rotate every two years.”

Inspired by the Olympics and World Cups he thinks it would be the most well-being thing to do “The Olympics and the World Cup are every four, so an every-other-year scenario for some grand prix would maintain the levels of interest in them and would allow us to expand the markets we’re in without expanding the race calendar itself.”
