Dutch driver Max Verstappen scored one of the most dominant season ever in the history of Formula 1. Verstappen single-handedly amassed 19 victories in the season and achieved applause from the entire world of Formula 1. Hence, the 26-year-old has been appreciated by his fellow countryman and former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde.
Garde asserted that it was amazing whatever the Dutchman achieved in the season and his performance was unprecedented in the season. The performance from Verstappen was very special for everyone in Netherlands and the Dutch fans. The former driver added that it’s not normal to score such a performance in a single season.
I think it is very special what we are experiencing now in the Netherlands, If you have someone who can win 19 races in a season, and ten in a row, that's unprecedented. We actually don't dwell on it too long and too much. It just becomes normal and actually it's not normal.Garde told racingnews365.com.
However, Garde renounced that this performance was not normal. Although, after such an performance the fans get used to the domination and underestimate just how impressive it is to win races so casually. Additionally, winning 10 races in a row and 19 total races in a single season is ‘unprecedented’ to comprehend for the fans. Certainly, Dutch fans continue to adore every single victory of the three-time world champion.
For television shows and people it becomes: 'oh, Max won again.' Then it must all be normal, but guys, what we are experiencing now in the Netherlands is really unprecedented. But then, when he now wins 19 races and gets the third championship, it's not normal and inhuman.
Giedo van der Garde admit 2023 F1 races were boring at times
However, Garde was not hesitant in accepting the fact that sometimes the race got a bit boring and could have been more spectacular. Although Verstappen’s domination was the one that stood out from the other facts and incidents during the races. Garde also shared his thoughts over the teamwork between Red Bull’s engineer and Verstappen.
Anyhow, the former Dutch driver commented that if you take away Verstappen from the 2023 season, it was a spectacular year for the entire paddock. Without Verstappen, the championship battle would be continued till the penultimate race between the following drivers. Sergio Perez would have had emerged as a champion in that case.
The Dutchman has definitely proved his racing talent in this season purely by his performances. Although he has expressed his doubts over possibly replicating this performance in the following season, the 26-year-old still aims at winning the championship in the following season as well.
