Lance Stroll’s frustration was on full display at the Losail International Circuit as the driver appeared to shove his trainer on camera. This incident came right after Stroll was knocked out of Q1 following a disappointing Qualifying Session. Stroll has been overshadowed by his teammate Fernando Alonso throughout 2023. The Spanish veteran has continuously outperformed the 24-year-old right from the start of this season.
But Former F1 driver, David Coulthard, has said that he understands the situation is touch on Stroll. And he also offered words of support for the young Canadian. Coulthard spoke to Channel 4 about how Stroll is just having a mental meltdown and that he feels for the Aston Martin driver. He said [as reported by Express], “That is a meltdown which I feel for him. That’s not something I thought I would say very often for Lance but he’s just getting absolutely hammered by Fernando Alonso and he’s had a meltdown.”
Coulthard was accompanied by Mark Webber, another Grand Prix winner on the Channel 4 program. Webber pointed out how he, also feels for Stroll but his eventual act of pushing his trainer cannot be excused. The Aussie pointed out how it was the trainer’s responsibility to try and diffuse the agitated Stoll. He said, “The trainer was doing his best. You’ve got to go to the scale like this is regulation. Tricky session, he’s going to have to go through the admin of the sport.“
Mike Krack finally addresses Lance Stroll’s weaknesses
Aston Martin Boss Mike Krack has been extremely supportive of Stroll throughout the season despite the obvious lack of competence from the Canadian. Mike Krack was previously spotted saying that Aston Martin haven’t been able to put forth a car worthy of adapting to Stroll’s driving style. Lance Stroll has come under heavy scrutiny because of his Qatar GP meltdown (where he also threw the steering wheel out of the car as he returned to the garage).

The 24-year-old has been criticized throughout the season by pundits and fans but was always been favored by his TP – Mike Krack. Krack finally mentioned Stroll’s shortcomings as he was questioned about the massive performance gap between Stroll and Alonso. He said, “At the start of the season it was closer and now the gap is a little bigger. We need to understand why. He [Stroll] has lost a bit of competitiveness. We have clues as to what Lance is talking about, but we have to make the changes to see if he improves or not.”
This remark is the first and only remark that actually questions Stroll’s pace in the AMR23. The Canadian driver is P10 in the standings with 47 points while Alonso is P4 with 183. As it is known to all, Stroll’s father Lawrence owns the majority of the Aston Martin shares and fans have said that could be the reason why Lance will never be dismissed from the team even if he messes up the results. But F1 veteran Nico Rosberg claimed that if Lance does not improve soon, Aston Martin should start looking for his replacement.
