The 2015 Le Mans winner Richard Bradley believes Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has to improve his game if he wants to remain in the team. Perez had a brilliant start to the 2023 Formula 1 season.  After the first four races, he and his teammate, reigning world champion Max Verstappen had two wins each. Due to this result, many believed Perez would challenge his teammate for the championship.

Things did not turn out that way, as Verstappen went on to win four races consecutively.  He is 69 points ahead of Perez in the drivers’ championship standings. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez has failed to reach Q3 in the last three races. His poor qualifying sessions had turned race days into recovery. The Mexican driver started P12 in Montreal and finished P6. Richard Bradley analyzed Perez’s run and does not think his Red Bull seat will be secure if he does not step up his game.

Bradley told the On Track GP podcast, “Let’s face it, Max looks unstoppable at the minute. But if it’s the case where Max is going to need a rear gunner, Sergio needs to up his game a bit, especially when you’ve got a lot of other people now who are starting to perform in a seriously heavy way.” He added, “Let’s be honest, Red Bull is the least secure seat on the grid.”

Richard Bradley claims sooner or later Verstappen might need his teammate’s support. He compared Perez to former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas. Bradley explained that when Bottas was at Mercedes he had a 100 percent Q3 record which is mind-blowing.

The 31-year-old claims Perez needs to up his game as a rear gunner to Verstappen. Though he credited Perez for making a recovery in Montreal, he wasn’t impressed as the Mexican driver could not catch the Ferraris.

Bradley claimed that Max Verstappen is in the best form but even he might need support from his teammate. It is understood that the RB19 is dominant and the Dutchman need not worry about having a “wingman” for now. However, according to Bradley things might change and Red Bull might replace Perez if he is not fighting in front with Verstappen.

Red Bull are not afraid to change drivers if it does not suit them. Hence, Sergio Perez needs to prove that he is worthy of the seat. Though Perez is second in the championship standings, Fernando Alonso recently admitted that he thinks he can overtake him in the points. This might be a huge blow to Red Bull who have the best car on the grid. All eyes will be on Perez in the upcoming races. It remains to be seen if he can improve his result and get back to his strong form.
