Formula E CEO places £250,000 bet on Max Verstappen for F1 2024 title, claims to ‘absolutely already know who is winning’
Max Verstappen will be aiming for his fourth World Championship title in 2024, and if he achieves it, his title count will be equal to Red Bull legend Sebastian Vettel's.
Max Verstappen has already racked up three consecutive World Championship titles and Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds believes that the streak will be extended to 4 by the end of this year. The Dutchman will be heading into the 2024 season on the back of the what was the most dominant season ever by an F1 driver. Verstappen had managed to win 19 out of the 22 races in 2023, with his win percentage being 86%.
Dodds believes that this level of dominance cannot be overturned so easily. The Formula E CEO is so confident about this, that he claimed to donate £250,000 to the charity foundation of any driver who manages to beat Verstappen to the title in 2024.
If any of the other 19 drivers win it, we’ll give a quarter of a million dollars to the charity of the other driver that wins it.
Dodds said, as reported by Express Sports UK.
He went on to explain that the amount of developments that the cars receive in the off season isn’t enough for a team to catch up to Red Bull at this moment.
I absolutely already know who is winning. You can’t win 19 out of 21 races in one season, go in the off-season, bit of development on the cars, come back for the next one and not win it. I just can’t see it.Dodds said about Max Verstappen, as per Express Sports UK.
Max Verstappen hints at repeat of 2023 in the upcoming season with favorable feedback on RB20
Dodds’ claims about Verstappen winning his fourth title might have some substance to it, especially when Verstappen himself announced that he is feeling comfortable with the brand new Red Bull challenger for 2024. After being revealed last week, Verstappen had an opportunity to get behind the wheel of the RB20 even before testing day, when he took it for a spin around Silverstone for filming purposes.
Unfortunately the British weather interrupted proceedings before Verstappen had a chance to explore the limits of the new car. However, the Dutchman expressed that the first feelings with the car are on the positive side. He claimed that he is comfortable with how the car is handling and is keen on learning more during the pre-season tests at Bahrain.
I think the first feelings are good. I felt comfortable. That's the most important. Now I'm just looking forward to driving in Bahrain and to start to understand the car a bit more.Max Verstappen said after the Red Bull shakedown.
Come test day, Verstappen made a statement right away by finishing at the top of the timing charts on Day 1. The 26 year old driver put in 143 laps and set a time of 1:31.344, more than a second faster than Lando Norris in P2. If the pre season testing pace is a reflection of what is to come, then it won’t be a surprise to see Verstappen lifting his fourth consecutive title at the end of 2024.
