The FP1 session at the Las Vegas GP was red-flagged immediately after an unfortunate manhole incident on the track. Just after eight minutes in the session, multiple cars faced collided with the open manhole and damaged their cars. Fred Vasseur has spoken over this blunder from F1 as Carlos Sainz’s car also incurred heavy damage.
The manhole opening caused Carlos Sainz to produce heavy amounts of sparks on the track. This also heavily damaged the Spaniard’s car, and had to sit out of the session. The damage is reportedly going to cost Ferrari millions of dollars to repair.
Ferrari Team Principle Fredric Vasseur got heated during an interview and commented that the team had a very tough practice session. Additionally, the boss added that the incident will cost a fortune to the team and also that they had f*cked the session for Carlos.
We had a very tough one. This will cost us a fortune. We f*cked up the session for Carlos. We won’t be part of the FP2 for sure, we have to change the chassis.
Vasseur said, as reported by autosport.com.
In addition to this, the Frenchman added that the show was a grand success and was going well. But the boss was not hesitant to criticize F1 over the incident and called such an incident as ‘unacceptable’ for F1.
Okay, the show is the show and everything is going well but I think it is just unacceptable for F1 today.
Fred Vasseur applauded F1 despite a failed practice session
The Ferrari boss renounced his faith in F1 and Liberty Media to put on a successful show at the Las Vegas GP. Vasseur reclaimed that the events and shows conducted at the Las Vegas GP were a huge step for Formula 1 in the right direction, as the show also attracted a lot of fans and sponsorships from the American continent.
Vasseur also talked about separating the sporting side of the event from the show side of the event. Although the show side of the American weekend was mega, the 55-year-old added that F1 should not overlook the sporting side of the event just to put on a show for the fans. Devastated by the body damage to Sainz’s car, the boss still appreciated F1 over the mega show and still expects great attendance and racing action over the weekend of the Las Vegas GP.
The Las Vegas GP has put forth some amazing and promising events. It seems that the attendance might reach an all time high from the American weekend. Despite the challenges incoming in the race weekend, FIA and F1 are working continuously to fix these issues and put a great show just for the sake of the fans near the Nevadan circuit.
